Should the Lord’s Supper Have a Sombre Tone?

I am wondering about your take on whether the Lord’s supper should be a somber event of introspection or a joyous meal of celebration. My understanding is that throughout church history it has been observed more as a somber event, but through the works of people like Leithart and Jordan I have come to see it as mainly a celebration of God’s kindness and favor.

How Does Proverbs Fit in with the Rest of the OT?

How does the book of Proverbs fit in with the rest of the OT? It seems so general and universal, and hardly draws upon Israel’s particular covenant history. It rarely if at all appeals to special revelation from YHWH, the God of Israel, and discusses natural realities that are universally acknowledged. Is there much of a difference between Proverbs and the sort of wisdom literature that pagans would write?

What Is Meant By Calling Marriage A Natural Institution?

If marriage is a pre-political institution then none of the measures laid down by the state (e.g. registration, marriage certificates etc.) make a marriage legitimate in God’s eyes. In which case, what does constitute a legitimate marriage in God’s eyes? One answer I’ve been given, based on Genesis 1-2, is something along the lines of: a man and a woman who make promises to each other before God and some witnesses. What are you thoughts on this, and which passage(s) would you use to make your case?

Does New Creation Undermine Natural Law?

What implications does the promise of new creation have for Christian ethics? Specifically does new creation undermine natural law ethics since we are now to orientate our lives, not towards what is revealed in nature, but towards the new creation established by God in Christ. What implications does this have for issues in which Christians often appeal to natural law arguments – marriage, sexuality, gender issues etc…?

Tips For Reading Your Bible Better

How do you go about noticing intertextual links? Is is mostly intuitive based on large exposure to the Bible? Do you do particular searches? Is it just checking cross-references (is there a similar apparatus for the BHS like there is for the NA28, for instance)? Any insight is appreciated.

Do you have any set notetaking when it comes to Scripture in order to remember insights, intertextual links, important points on tricky passages, etc.? If yes, how do you go about it and organize it?

What Should We Make of Jeremiah’s Prophecy of a New Covenant?

As a paedobaptist, I am curious how would you respond to the credobaptist argument from the nature of the new covenant as described in Jer 31:31–34. They argue that Jeremiah pictures the newness of the new covenant consisting in its being made with an entirely regenerate/forgiven/saved community. Credobaptists then would argue that this change in the nature of the covenant people implies a change in the administration of the covenant sign as well, such that it should now only be applied to those who evidence themselves to be regenerate by means of a credible profession of faith. In addressing this question, I would love to hear your basic view of how the various covenants in Scripture relate to one another and develop over time.

As some of my followers will find it inconvenient to watch my videos, but could listen to audio, I have set up a Soundcloud account, which will have the audio from my videos. I may also post other things there from time to time. I am steadily uploading the audio from my existing videos there at the moment.

If you would like to help to cover the cost of the Soundcloud account and to enable me to produce material of a higher quality, more consistently, and more accessibly, please consider supporting me on Patreon.

If you have any questions you would like for me to answer, please leave them over on my Curious Cat account. You can watch my videos here.
