Reading Revelation

There seem to be a number of different overall approaches to interpreting the book of Revelation. Can you briefly explain what each of these are and then share your own preferred interepretaive approach? Perhaps some recommended reading too?

Within this video, I mention a number of commentaries, books, and other material related to the book of Revelation. Here are a few:

Peter Leithart, Revelation 1-11, Revelation 12-22
David Chilton, The Days of Vengeance
Richard Bauckham, The Climax of Prophecy
G.K. Beale, Revelation (NIGTC)
Ian Paul, Revelation (TNTC)
James Jordan, The Vindication of Jesus Christ
204 James Jordan lectures on Revelation (although I highly recommend you buy it as part of this collection instead)

  1. You didn’t mention Austin Farrer! His Rebirth of Images is surely seminal for the layered depth of the symbolism. Leithart has mentioned him with fulsome praise in the past I note – so presumably Leithart’s commentary draws on Farrer’s. And golly it is still pricey.
