This is probably my last video for a month or so. Within it, I discuss the difficult chronology of Genesis 38. I’ve written a lengthy post here, which gets into some of the typology of the chapter in its context. I also mention the Judah and Tamar narrative in the context of this video on Ruth the Moabitess. Ruth the Moabitess and the Moabite Women of Nehemiah
Having recently read both Ruth and Nehemiah, I was struck by the very different ways they relate to the recurring entanglement of Moabite women and Israelite men. Nehemiah seems to replay the old story, whereas Ruth seems to invert it (the faithful pagan woman, redeemed that she might birth the future redeemer). Do you have any thoughts on this or on the related issue of how David and Jesus were admitted into the congregation of Israel in spite of Moabite ancestry?

Priest, King, Prophet
While it is very far from the most articulate or well-ordered treatment of the subject (like the rest of my videos it is done without any notes or preparation, off the top of my head), the following is a brief introduction to the priest-king-prophet paradigm for understanding Scripture. Jesus as the Greater Ezekiel in Luke 3-4
I recorded a video earlier this evening, talking through the interpretation of Luke 3-4 against the background of Ezekiel. It is an experiment and clearly leaves much to be desired. However, if people like it, I might do this and other videos more regularly (and hopefully in a more organized and less rambling fashion!). For instance, if people have questions that they would like me to answer, recording a video is quicker than much writing a blog post.
